My daughter is in the same boat. Straight A student in regular school. She wants to switch to Liberty University Online Academy. This law is poorly written. It should have said if the student was not academically eligible when he or she moved to homeschool, then he or she must wait on year...

In reply to <a href="https://www.homeschoolingsc.org/equal-access-homeschoolers-south-carolina/#comment-490">Loretta McKinley</a>.

I knew the one year waiting period applied to traditional homeschoolers. It would be too easy for someone to abuse the system if their student wasn't making the grade required by the High School League...and then suddenly they're passing everything as a homeschooler. People already suspect homeschoolers skimping by...we really don't need anyone actually trying to skimp by.

I can't see why that would be a concern with a student going to online school though. But, I guess they fall under the same equal access law. Sorry you have to wait a year to qualify again.

That is all well and good. However, my daughter is transferring this upcoming semester to online public school. She is ranked in the top 1% of her class. Her grades are currently at the school she had planned to play softball for. But because of that one year waiting period she has been blocked from doing what she loves and has done her entire life. She is a Junior hoping to play in college but cannot play in High School. The same school she has played for since 9th grade. I am one unhappy mom.
